Green careers are on the rise in popularity now. How can I go about getting a green career is the big question for a lot of individuals that are out of work right now. Thanks to the new scheme by the US government to push the employment market to grow and grow green. The demand for green jobs and green careers will be on the rise for the next few years as the worldwide economies make a conscience shift towards clean green technology and business practices.

Do you suppose that all this pushing towards a greener way of life and doing big business is going to help us out of this depression? I will not argue that there is a great deal of demand for green careers and the future of industry may depend on it. Clearly there will be millions of new careers and markets for new jobs that are going to be created in the next few years. What about all the careers and industry that all this changing to green technology is going to replace? What about all the careers that are going to be loss in the next few years that are dependent on the use of fossil fuels? Power plants, coal mines and oil refineries just to name a few.

Nobody really talks about all the people that work in those industries that are going to be phased out of a career thanks to the move to go green. There lies the real rub of all this talk about moving to a cleaner greener way of fueling our lives and the way we do business. Making that swing to a new way of doing things is going to cost a lot of people jobs that they have spent a life time learning and doing. Years of education for an industry that is now being phased out and now the prospect of reeducation just to keep up with the quickly budding job market.

The new path is clear and the best thing to do if your upcoming career path looks kind of hazy it may be time to hop on the green careers band wagon. The quicker you jump in the more safe and sound your future and your career can be. We are on the ground floor of a career marketplace that is situated to really take off in the next few years. Green careers for new energy sources like solar, wind, batteries and bio fuels are just a sampling of careers as well as regulators, administrators and lawyers to take it all to the fore front of as the careers of choice.

There are as many definitions of  “green” as there are shades of color. Wikipedia defines a green building, also known as a sustainable building as “ a structure that is designed, built, renovated, operated, or reused in an ecological and resource-efficient manner.”

Dade County Florida’s Website reads that, “Sustainable building practices go beyond energy and water conservation to incorporate environmentally sensitive site planning, resource efficient building materials and superior indoor environmental quality.” The website lists five key benefits of sustainable construction that seems to concisely capture the “spirit” of the green building concept.

- Lower electric and water utility costs

- Environmentally effective use of building materials

- Enhanced health and productivity

- Long-term economic returns

- Reduced environmental impact

The need to reduce costs associated with energy production and  importing building materials,  the importance of conserving water and natural resources and minimizing environmental impact are challenges that are even more paramount within our island communities. Green  initiatives provide excellent benefits but carry a pricetag asociated with implementation. We’ve looked at the benefits and the challenges, but what are the affordable solutions?

“Modern technology, owes ecology, an apology” is an old saying. In the case of the new technology in building homes, this proverb seems to be false. Those energy and resource efficient green homes built in Austin are real gifts from modern technology to the environment. Green Homes have become a buzz word in Austin and with technological innovation leading to more energy savings, green technology is making progress towards becoming synonymous with ecology.

Breathe Easy

Many green homes are built using toxin-free building materials like bamboo or straw inorder to combat indoor air pollution, which is much worse than outdoor air pollution. Unhealthy air inside a room is capable of causing serious health problems like cancer and respiratory ailments like asthma. The non-toxic building materials used, include paints without volatile organic compounds and toxin-free insulation materials made from soybeans. This means that you can breathe fresh, non-toxic air.
