Is it true in 1970s, some green man-like creatures with high tech mysteriously landed on earth, then vanished?

I was in Primary School in the late 1970s, when news was very rife that kind of a dozen green figures similar to mankind, with super technology connected with wires in their ears and unique fatigue, had landed on planet earth, actually in the United States of America.
Homosapiens-our own kind scientists and security personnel approached them to know who or what they actually were, but the mysterious strange scientists vanished in thin air or without trace.
That’s what we were told now forty years ago.
